02-02-12, SR 235 is now open. The fog is very heavy this morning and visibility is poor. The sandhill cranes could be heard but not seen.
01-19-12 SR 235 is closed on both sides of the bridge. The water came up fast. There were heavy rains north of us. and snow is expected so it is uncertain when the road will re-open.
01-16-12 Yesterday there were still thousands of sandhill cranes in the fields west of the bridge both east and south of Medora. The cranes feed on amphibians and grain. Since there is some water in the fields and plenty of corn they have found what they are looking for. The weather here at Medora has been in the teens in the Mornings but is in the mid 30's this morning.
01-09-12 The information concerning the signs mentioned below was forwarded to Steve Davisson's Office from Anicia Richardson of the
Indiana Office of Tourism Development.
01-08-12 An e-mail from State Representative Steve Davisson states that signage for the Medora Covered Bridge has been approved for three locations:
1. US 50 @ SR 235. 1 sign for the eastbound traffic on US 50.
2. US 50 @ SR 135. 1 sign for westbound Traffic on US 50.
3. SR 135 @ SR 235. 2 signs, one each for the northbound
and southbound traffic on SR 135.
01-08-12 There were hundreds of cranes by the backwater west of the bridge just east of town today. They are really graceful when they land and fun to watch.
01-07-12 The sandhill cranes are flying over by the thousands today heading south.
Some are landing in the field west of the bridge, just east of town.
12-28-11 SR 235 is open. The sandhill cranes are flying over but are not landing in the fields near the bridge.
12-24-11 The road to the bridge is still closed. There were thousands of sandhill cranes in the fields west of Brownstown on the north side of US fifty earlier today.
There have been no confirmed sightings in the Medora area yet.
12-18-11 The River has come back up ande closed signs are up to the bridge from both sides. Hopefully it will go back down soon.
12-12-11 SR 235 was opened this morning. There was some debris on the parking areas but over all they were pretty clear. The sandhill cranes can be heard going over but they are not landing at this time. There was an eagle and a hawk flying near the bridge earlier today.
11-29-11 The river is coming up and is over the road just west of the bridge. SR 235 is closed on both sides of the bridge but is open from US 50 to the east edge of Medora. The sandhill cranes have flown over but have not landed. It is expected that they will be seen in the fields if the area continues to flood. It has been raining for several days, but it is a slow gentle rain.
11-28-11 SR 235 is closed East of the bridge for road repairs. The sign says Nov. 28-30, but because of the rain, it may be closed longer.
A wonderful gift was recently presented by Mr. Dean Claycamp, a retired carpenter from rural Columbus, Indiana. It is a 1/24 scale model of one span of the Medora Covered Bridge with portals for both ends. The roof was metal when the model was built.

This is one of three picnic tables donated by INDOT. They are concrete with wood tops and benches. The tables were placed in shaded areas on the west end of the bridge.
